It is important to distinguish between naturally occurring sugars and added sugar.

Not all sugar behaves the same way in your body. When sugar comes packaged inside a whole food; wrapped in fibre, water, and micronutrients, your body digests it slowly and you feel fuller for longer. Blood glucose rises gradually, your pancreas responds proportionally, and you feel full longer.

Added sugar acts differently. It's absorbed rapidly, causes sharper spikes in blood glucose, and delivers calories with minimal nutritional return. Over time, consistent blood sugar spikes are associated with increased risk of type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular disease - it is therefore important to understand, monitor and control how much added sugar we are consuming each meal. Therefore, our meals have a maximum of 5g added sugar per meal.

Preparation instructions

Oven from chilled (190°C / Fan 170°C / Gas 5, 25 minutes): Pre-heat oven. Remove sleeve and pierce film lid. Place on a baking tray in the centre of the oven and heat for 25 minutes. Remove film lid and leave to stand for 1 minute before serving.

Microwave from chilled (800W: 2 min then 2 min / 900W: 2 min then 1 min 30 sec): Remove sleeve and pierce film lid. Place on a microwavable plate and heat on full power for 2 minutes (800W/900W). Partially peel back film lid, stir and re-cover. Heat on full power for a further 2 minutes (800W) or 1 minute 30 seconds (900W). Remove film lid and leave to stand for 1 minute before serving.

Keep refrigerated. Not suitable for freezing. All appliances vary — these are guidelines only. Check food is piping hot throughout before serving. Take care when removing film lid as hot steam will escape. Do not reheat.
